Paper Sculpture

Andrew Ooi creates sculptural reliefs entirely out of paper. Hundreds of sheets are assembled to produce a single work through a complex process of cutting, creasing, painting, and folding. Each artwork can take weeks or months to complete, producing something which is sculpturally dimensional out of an otherwise flat material. This lengthy and repetitive process encourages the artist’s reflection on evolving subjects of interest such as the theme of this exhibition – transformation.
