Born in Kochi, Japan, Akiko always had a vague dream to become a musician, but opted for “more realistic career” and received science degrees in Tokyo and Vancouver. When her youngest child started kindergarten in 2017, she developed a vision of seriously pursuing her long-forgotten dream and started to learn flute. Currently she studies under Leslie Newman and Kaori Fujii while playing at the Church of the Ascension and Brock University Wind Ensemble, and occasionally joins Burlington Symphony Orchestra (most recently in June 2023). Her new ambition now is to launch a professional-level volunteer group which is accessible to the community and actively delivers all size of (solo/chamber/concert band/orchestra) quality music.
