Ancaster-based sculptor Laura Brandreth’s solo exhibition ‘Bore Holes’ showcases a series of one-of-a-kind prototype illuminated objects. These 3-dimensional objects have the disposition of an appliance but whose form altogether reflects a more playful and absurd narrative. Designed to encase and manipulate a functioning light source, each ‘lamp’ comprises handcrafted exotic and domestic wood, sheet metal, sourced hardware, cast urethane resin elements and an electrical unit. With ‘Bore Holes’ there is a dialogue between the perception of what is possible in production design and the value of expression and exploration over strict proficiency alone.
