Laurie Wonfor Nolan, invitationThe TBA Artspace at the Carnegie Gallery is pleased to inaugurate its second season of “New ART in the Atrium” with a show of plein air paintings by Laurie Wonfor Nolan. This exhibition coincides with her selection as the feature artist for the Carnegie Secret Gardens Tour, June 12th. Garden Tour goers receive a beautiful poster of a Wonfor Nolan painting and can watch her paint “live” in front of the Carnegie Gallery that day, 11am-1pm, as well as tour her exhibition.

Wonfor Nolan’s show features work done on site in the natural world she loves. “Nature is not a place you visit. It is home.” These words of the poet Gary Snyder, almost a credo for the artist’s work, form the title of Wonfor Nolan’s show. Small scale for the most part, her landscape paintings display all the immediacy and honesty of the small works of the earliest Canadian plein air painters, the Group of Seven.

A graduate of the Sheridan College Illustration Program, Wonfor Nolan paints and teaches from her studio in rural Roseville, Ontario, in a converted church. She frequently travels to Northern Ontario to paint.
