Salvaged History as Sculptural Collage

The Carnegie Gallery is pleased to welcome established Toronto-based artist, Sara Petroff. Petroff, with degrees in Visual Fine Arts and Interior Design, has served as the curator and artistic director of Toronto’s prominent Petroff Gallery for over 20 years. In 2013 she sold Petroff Gallery to establish Petroff Design, an Interior Design and Art Consulting practice. In Sara’s solo exhibition ‘Salvaged History as Sculptural Collage’, rescuing traces of time on memory-filled papers is the catalyst for building mixed media sculptural collages that creatively up-cycle obsolete ephemera and artifacts. With these sculptures often taking the form of clothing, the aim is not to recreate historical costumes, but rather to serve as an intimate and relatable canvas onto which the viewer can project their memories.
