Adventures in Technique and Colour

An illustrated talk by Mita Giacomini

Fibre artist Mita Giacomini’s recent Carnegie Gallery exhibit, Other Words for Birds generated many questions about her novel technique of surface weaving. In this talk, she will reflect on the inspirations for her bird portraits and explain the process of surface weaving. She will also illustrate how fibre as an art medium supports uniquely complex and compelling colour work.

Mita Giacomini is a fibre artist in Dundas, Ontario. Her tapestry-like ‘surface weavings’ feature rich textured surfaces with myriad colour interactions. Her artwork has been exhibited throughout Canada as well as in the U.S., Asia, Australia and Europe.
