Maureen Landry exhibition invitationMaureen Landry’s ceramic works incorporate the use of tarpaper templates in the same way that patterns are used in sewing. She starts with a drawing and if the size and shape work, she makes a tarpaper pattern. The pattern is taped together and any alterations are made before moving on to the clay. With respect to the forms she creates, Landry notes:

I have a fascination with teapots and all the facets that make up a teapot – the body and the many shapes it can take, the lid and spout and how they correspond with the body, and the handle that invites you to pick up the teapot.

The entire process of working with clay is both an inspiration and a challenge but those are the things that keep me motivated.
